Grands Projets Canada, a global leader in large-scale civil engineering projects, is hiring a Temporary Works Engineer for a major infrastructure project in Canada. This permanent position (CDI) offers a strong career path in structural engineering, construction design coordination, and temporary works management.

You will be part of the refurbishment program of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, a high-value project focused on deep-water intake construction and complex engineering structures in a regulated environment.

Project Overview

This strategic infrastructure project involves advanced construction engineering techniques, requiring strict compliance with safety standards, design validation, and temporary works coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Temporary Works Design Coordination

  • ✔ Coordinate temporary works designs with third-party engineers.
  • ✔ Review and challenge designs for structural integrity and constructability.
  • ✔ Validate assumptions, load paths, materials, and construction methods.
  • ✔ Ensure risks, constraints, and limitations are clearly communicated.

Technical Assurance & Validation

  • ✔ Ensure compliance with engineering standards (BS 5975, structural codes).
  • ✔ Verify design documentation: drawings, calculations, and risk assessments.
  • ✔ Collaborate with designers to resolve issues and improve efficiency.

Construction Support & Site Integration

  • ✔ Ensure temporary works are executed according to approved designs.
  • ✔ Conduct technical briefings for site teams.
  • ✔ Monitor site conditions and ensure alignment with design assumptions.

Risk & Safety Management

  • ✔ Support compliance with temporary works procedures.
  • ✔ Contribute to risk assessments and method statements.
  • ✔ Escalate unsafe conditions or deviations from design immediately.

Candidate Profile

This role is ideal for engineers with experience in temporary works design and construction engineering on major infrastructure projects.

  • ✔ Degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering.
  • 3–10 years experience in civil construction projects.
  • ✔ Strong knowledge of temporary works engineering.
  • ✔ Professional Engineer (Ontario) is an advantage.
  • ✔ Health & safety certifications (IOSH, CRSP, etc.).
  • ✔ Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • ✔ Ability to solve complex engineering problems.
